Wedding photography is a specialty area of
photography for many photographers and studios.
A wedding photographer will usually provide some or all of the following:
Formal portraiture in the studio for the wedding and/or the engagement
photos.
Both posed and candid shots of the wedding couple and their guests
ceremony and the reception that follows.
Digital services such as digital prints or slides shows.
Outdoor photography, often at a park, beach or scenic location on the day
of the wedding.
Indoor photography at a church, temple or other private venue during the
ceremony and reception.
Albums - either traditional or flush mount type of album.
Today, many more weddings are photographed with digital SLR cameras as the
digital convenience provides quick detection of lighting mistakes and
allows creative approaches to be reviewed immediately

If you are hiring a wedding photographer be aware that photos taken
are often copyrighted by the photographer. A wedding photographer will
generally retain copyright over the wedding images, and will normally
charge a client for any extra reprints. You receive prints NOT
negatives. The reason this is said here is because unfortunately many
couples (over 45%) are highly disappointed and upset when they want
more photos and find this out after the fact and also find out how
expensive they are. This is not to say that wedding photographers are
in any way dishonest. That fact, even when mentioned to the couple,
may slip through their minds with so much else happening. Check this
out and know what you are getting before you decide on a photographer.
Often, photographers who do not retain copyright will charge more for
their services. However, since the digital revolution in photography,
a greater number of photographers allow a client to purchase a CD with
the digital images on it or simply include the digital images as part
of the wedding package, thus allowing the client to print any images
they may desire. Many times, photographers will place a watermark or a
copyright notice on the front of the proof images to protect their
copyright. |
